Criminal Sanity, Lapse of Sanity - Hungry Musician, 9/16/06
Wow, it’d been a long time since I’d seen Criminal Sanity, who in the early 90’s was a main stay at many D/FW clubs. They’re back, playing many of the same songs, plus some new ones. They’re all original, though some songs were so familiar, they seemed like covers as I sang along. Music is reminiscent of old or middle Metallica.
One thing different, as vocalist Larry Linch put it, “we’re the biggest band in Texas, as we’ve all gained a little weight... and lost some hair!” Other members are Tony Ledford (lead gtr.), John Evans (gtr.), Chris Boner (bass) and Orion Quest (drums), Highlights were “I Kill Myself,” “In the Palace Tonight” (one of the best local band songs ever), “Though the Gates of Hell,” and “Night of Destruction” (with Larry’s wicked laugh). Jerry Flores (X-s Red) joined Orion for an incredible duel-drumming finish to the night.
Opener Lapse of Sanity was impressive. They’re recommended as well. (Linda Hollar)
Forget Family Values and Korn. Forget Nickelback in Frisco. The place to be THIS weekend was Rob’s for this special reunion show. Additionally, it was Skid Dickson’s birthday!
Gibson Cemetery hadn’t been on a stage for 12 years - yet this was their best–ever show. A lot of that is undoubtedly due Jim Wright’s keeping his chops up in Live Wire.
X’s Red hasn’t lost a thing in their absence, sounding just like always - excellent musicians all. A highlight was “Dead People.”
Six-piece Criminal Sanity is, and always has been, a sing-along band, with unforgettable songs, even years later.
The night’s highlight occurred during their set with a trio of the awesome drummers of Criminal Sanity (Orian Quest), X’s Red (Jerry Flores) and Lapse of Sanity (Brian McKee) -think a knocked down version of Godsmack.
Drum trio - Orian Quest, Brian McKee, Jerry Flores - had fans standing and cheering
